Preparing for a Supervisor Role
This is a 1 day, instructor-led course.
This one day course, is an introduction to the fundamental skills required, and issues encountered, by new supervisors in any job sector. It is designed to help new and potential supervisors prepare for taking the key step from being a skilled individual contributor to a confident team leader/supervisor. This course is designed to be practical and interactive, with time for discussion and personal reflection as well as materials delivery.
The aim of this course is to introduce new and potential supervisors/team leaders to the key skills needed for a supervisory role
Upon successful completion of this course, delegates will:
• Understand the key differences between an individual contributor role and a supervisory role
• Appreciate why this is such a big step for anyone
• Be aware of fundamental skills that will help in the early days of taking on a supervisory role
• Have an outline plan to develop those skills

How the team changes when you are promoted
Why it suddenly feels different when you are promoted within your own team

1. Delegation
Why delegation isn’t a luxury, and why it can be challenging
2. Workload management
Why good workload management prevents unnecessary stress in the role
ABC tasks, urgency vs importance, link to delegation
3. Managing relationships
Maintaining good working relationships when your role changes
Why listening and questioning skills matter
Action planning
Creating an outline plan for practical actions that will help to prepare in a real work setting Stop/Start/Continue
